The day I left my motherland
The day I left my parents
The day I left my juniors
The day I left my friends
The day I left my relatives
The day I left my loved ones
The day I started my life journey
The day my dream had come true
The day my prayers got answered
The day my parents felt proud
The day I said them a Bye
The day I started missing them
The day I was an immigrant
The day I became a foreigner
The day I missed my country
The day I was recognised by my looks
The day I was welcomed with a name board
The day I experienced 9 degrees
The day I first saw super clean roads
The day I saw Benz & BMW as taxi’s
The day I saw people following traffic rules
The day I became an alien amidst crowd
The day I saw people ignoring my smiles
The day I used a dry toilet
The day I paid taxi 5000 rupees for a 20mins drive
The day I slept inside a bed (quilt)
The day when there were no fans in the ceiling
The day I walked barefoot in a carpet floor
The day I saw a room heater instead of an AC

And Miles to go before I reach........!

“Across the road, take a left then a right to meet the bridge where you can see a small red post box (as if there is only one post box in Birmingham) besides which there is a cafĂ©, ask them where ‘Griffin House, St Paul’s Square’’ is……………….This was the answer I got when I almost got lost amidst the crowd in the City Centre in Birmingham, finding my way towards  ‘’Big Cat’’ agency for an interview .The breathe that took you to read the above full stop less sentence was the same breathe that I took when I got a reply from Big cat’ on the 5th of October 2012 from the Natalie Hartland, Head of Marcomm, Big cat. It is so easy to type that name but its took me five minutes to pronounce the same! Not because it is an English name but because I am tamil (Indian Language). There are no sounds of  ‘Ah, ‘Sha, ‘ Gha etc in my mother tongue, so pronouncing every name in Britain is a milestone, not to mention Chinese names ofcourse L

I am a month old baby to Great Britain, so buses, roads, street names, people less roads are a nightmare to me! Though Monday was the interview, I planned to go and see the office location a day before. And I don’t regret for wasting my Sunday as well.

Thanks to google map, not for helping me find the route but for consoling me that the destination place is was at a walkable distance from bull ring (As bullring is the only place I know until now for sure shot in city centre).

Only in a confused state the whole world comes to give free advice, which in my case is not even free but spare a cup of coffee or plain cup cakes to friends who suggested me bus routes to St Paul Street.’” Take a 33 bus, get down in Bull ring and ask people there around for the route” (Cup cake for this L) (And where are people around in roads to ask routes, there is nobody man !!!!!!!!!)

Anyway clueless mind is better than confused one!

42,944, 974…. 7, 46,…. Yes 33 bus stop! Got into the bus and was searching for a conductor and was astonished to know that driver plays the role of the conductor as well! Blimey! What a surprise! Calm crowd unlike India where you can hear people discussing their family problems to a fellow passenger who is trying to console back. Crowdless and foot boardless buses where very impressive, meanwhile not to forget the racer drive, who changes directions and speed as he likes! Atlast got down in city centre and ventured the route by starting with “Excuse madam, can you please help me with where the St Paul’s Square is…………..? “

After all the vague instructions; spontaneous ‘I don’t know’s from people on the road, dirty stares and smiling people telling “I am equally new to this place honey!” (why is everybody traveling to UK L), I finally landed up in Griffin House, 18-19Ludgat Hill, St Paul Square, Birmingham !!!

The Beginning of a Saga……..

In 1929 two brothers Maurice and Richard who were curious to venture into business left their native to plough their land of business in California. Theatres being their first venture made a huge loss even after striving for four years. Having lost all their money, made them hunt for new business. After a series of failure, in 1948 they landed into restaurants with a small hot dog shop and named it the "Speedee Service System" and first established the principles of the modern fast-food restaurant of the era. Pioneers of the mascot of a man with a chef's hat on top of a hamburger shaped head, whose name was "Speedee”. In the next 5 years they were the richest families in town with annual sales of $200,00 per year. Having fetched $100,000 per year in 1954 brothers sold the company patent to Ray Kroc. Ray took over the restaurant and started franchising on his own. In 1955, Architect Stanley Meston who designed the logo of the restaurant with an attention grabbing red building with golden arches was a super hit. In 30years after its birth, the restaurant had its 100th branch in Fond du lac in 1959. From then on the restaurant has grown to its unbelievable1 height. Now having 32,000 restaurants, generating annual revenue of US $24.075Billion with 400,000 employees is a mile stone and a great initiative. Having been in loss for more than 10years in various fields, the brothers had the courage to fight back. To be the pioneer in fast food industry; using new marketing strategies to sell the brand; using mascots to attract; logo which no other company dare to design a creative and attention grabbing one.

Great entrepreneurs are not born brilliants but developed one; one such example is this brothers who thrived hard to venture into an innovative and clever business with a minimal investment. Not to forget Ray Kroc the man who made the restaurant into a huge food chain all over the world.

If you are still wondering of whom I am talking about, it is the ever favorite Mc Donald’s!!!
